I LOVE this entryway! Makes me want to get rid of our century old wallpaper and paint the top of our banister! HMMM!!

Vintage Light Fixture Make Over

 Our home was built around 1880. This fixture has never been replaced. It is a bit charming, but a bit stark when you turn the light on.  Since I was making over my girls' bedroom, I thought about replacing the fixture completely, but then I had a brilliant idea!

 I had found this large linen looking drum style lamp shade at Walmart and wondered if I could wire it to the little nub in the center of this light fixture...which may be hard to see!

 And Guess What! It fit around the bulbs perfectly and attached with just a bit of floral wire! A $15 Vintage Light Fixture Makeover!

Now it looks like I installed a Pendant Style Fixture...So Classy!

I will be posting more on this bedroom makeover soon! But at least you get the sneak peak!

This beautiful white washed sewing table graces my entry along with some of my favorite things...

A beautiful clear blue glass egg in a pretty nest, vintage books, vintage printing stamp set,

Giddy Up!...From Yellow to Pink

Okay! Time for the big reveal! 

I had the honor of doing a complete bedroom makeover for my sweet niece, Ella!

She enjoyed a pretty yellow room for quite some time, but Ella finally tired of this sunny color and wanted PINK...and a more grown up feel! She is almost 8 , you know! 

Ella loves horses, so that was the direction we went! 

Together, my sister-in-law and I, dug in our closets for fabrics and decor in order to keep a modest budget. Modest it was! Paint was the only cost for this amazing makover!

Retro Pink Bathroom Makeover

Never Fear! I am still here!

I have been enjoying some time away from blog land and focusing time on my family and some home projects. This bathroom project being one of them! 

Now when we bought our century home, this bathroom was such an eye soar...yes pepto bismal pink toilet, sink, and non-functioning bathtub! Ugh! Tile....tile...and more tile...pink, gray, and teal...and did I say DIRTY!!!

Here are the BEFORE  pics...sorry I only have 2! I was too lazy to take more!

After 3 years of living here and having 2 plumbers say the tub would not drain unless we had new pipes installed....which meant a total regut...a thought popped into my mind (totally a God thing) to try DRANO! And wouldn't you know....that was all it took! 

Now I am fortunate to have 2 girls, so we decided to make this retro pink look work.  So now instead of a $1500 + makeover, this update only cost me $150! Praise the Lord! This is a blessing when you have sooooo many expensive upkeep projects in an older home!

So here is a breakdown of the 12 clever and thrifty ways we took to avoid a total regut. Now this a cheery place for the girls to bathe and beautify themselves!

1. Remove 3! of the FIVE towel bars from inside the shower stall! Now we have some room! Oh, and caulk the holes and paint the caulk gray to match the tiles.

2. Paint the upper  dismal gray walls  and ceiling "white" to brighten the space (no sun on this side of the house).

3. Paint the nasty dirty discolored grout with white latex paint with a tiny paint brush....very tedious, but worth every hour of labor!

 4. Paint the horribly corroded sink faucet with chrome spray paint....YES! You can paint faucets! It does look a bit fake...but at least you want to touch it now!

5. Paint the silver light fixtures white.

6. Paint the nasty silver edge around the vanity mirror white.

7. Paint the nasty dirty pink and teal floor tile bright gloss white....YES! You can paint tile!

8. Add in bright shades of pink, green, and white fabric to counter act the pepto bismal pink! All the fabrics I used I already had!

9. Velcro on a sink skirt to hide the ugly metal sink legs and side bars.

10. Velcro on a fabric skirt to hide an ancient and hazardous wall heater (and tape the on off switch so it can't get bumped!)

11. Add bath toys, a drain catcher, and spout protector!

 12. Remove the old nasty pink toilet seat and replace with a new white "child-friendly" toilet seat! Great invention!

So there you have it! The final project in here is to pretty up the inside of the medicine cabinet! More on that project later!

A Story About Tinker

This week I wanted to tell you about my sweet friend Donna Reyne. 

She is one of the most talented decorators I know! She has such a charming effect on everything she does...her ideas are endless and creative beyond imagination! One of her latest projects is a garden house she and her husband built named "Tinker".  She has just decorated Tinker up for Christmas!

 How clever to add a chalkboard for her garden "To-do" list...and just look at how yummy that shade of aqua is! Donna has washed the entire inside of Tinker in this beautiful calming color!

 I just love her vignettes! Love that music papered bird!

 Donna's color palate for the Christmas Season is pale aquas, silver, and white. All of my favorites! A Simple touch of greenery is all that is needed to add Christmas charm!

  Tinker is created out of salvage pieces from her own home that is undergoing renovations!

 Galvanized and and brushed silver go perfectly with pale blue!

Donna loves chandeliers! Can't have a garden house without one of those!!

I will be busy the rest of this week preparing my last minute creations for the Holiday Open House this Saturday. I will be sure to share pictures with you next week!

Decking The Halls

Yes it is only November and Thanksgiving is yet to come, but I am anxiously awaiting to deck my halls for Christmas! I decided to share a few vignettes from my halls last Christmas!
